On our visit to ISH Frankfurt, Germany earlier this year we attended a Villeroy & Boch presentation on Trends & Kinds Of Trends, which was extremly interesting and thought we would share their insights on this Blog.
Villeroy & Boch discuss five overarching trend themes:
Maximalist Minimalism, Light Industrial, Playful Retro Touch and Eclectic Nostalgia all overarching Living with Nature.
Living with Nature
Top bathroom trends often arise from a basic human need: for instance, the desire to live in harmony with yourself and your environment. natural living, Scandi look and urban jungle will continue to be a part of our lives. They look their best with new natural materials and the latest shades of green.
Living spaces of the future pose many challenges. Housing is limited, open spaces are becoming rare. People in towns have to move closer together. This increases our desire for nature, freedom and authentic originality. Fortunately, there are ways to bring nature indoors. So a modest bathroom can be turned into an oasis of natural living.
Maximalist Minimalism
Minimalism relies on simple shapes, a neutral colour palette, clean lines and no clutter. Maximalism leans into pattern, texture, bold form and shapes. Maximalist minimalism is a combining of the two aesthetics each stimulates and defines the other.
Light Industrial
Industrial interior design is a popular trend, a stripped back architecture with raw elements such as exposed bricks, stone and concrete, iron pipes, weathered timbers or industrial windows. Featuring the building materials and surfaces previously removed or concealed. Industrial design trend has evolved over time, creating a softer look - Light industrial. Light industrial can be acheived by adding softer elements and nature such as, the addition of pot plants and greenery, leather accent chairs and accents more in the popular Scandinavian style as well as soft and textured materials, such as rattan or velvet.
Playful Retro Touch
Retro design is inspired from past eras, from the 1950's to 1970's. Playful Retro designs are all about looking fun and bright. The design textures are bold, colorful, and fun. Creating an uplifting space that people will enjoy.
You can add a playful Retro touch to your bathroom through colours, choose from a wide choice of coloured basins, baths, tapware and toilets. Add a classic pendent light and patterned accessories or decor pieces. In a small bathroom you can add more elements and textures by using coloured and textured wall and floor tiles, wall paper or Terrazzo. Larger bathroom can use bright coloured vanities or counter tops, these elements lift the playful retro mood in the bathroom.
Eclectic Nostalgia
Eclectic Nostalgia is a design trend that is a combination of pieces from different styles and eras to create a unique, modern vintage look. This could be achieved by using a combination of bold colours and different patterns and textures. The brave mixing of patterns, wall papers, framed prints, old vintage pieces and brand new pieces together create a bespoke bathroom space with your individual personality shining through.
