How much to renovate a bathroom?

How long is a piece of string?

There are so many possibilities and considerations it is difficult to come up with the right figure for your bathroom renovation but we can narrow it down to a few price brackets.

The main determining factors are:

  • The extent of renovation required, whether it’s a Complete Renovation, which will be the most expensive, or a Makeover / Refresh of the existing bathroom.

With a Complete renovation you can completely change the layout and design of your bathroom. It is the most expensive renovation as there will be a few trades involved which means higher labour costs. From builders to strip the bathroom interior including the floor and wall tiles, reinstalling new waterproofing to suit your new bathroom design; an electrician, tiler, plumber and plasterer.

Then the costs of purchasing your new Bathroom fixtures such as basins, baths, tapware, heated towel rails, a vanity, a shaving cabinet or a mirror, lighting and bathroom accessories.

If you have a smaller budget you can simply give your bathroom a Makeover. Simple things that can update the look, create more storage and enhance the feel and space of your bathroom. Things like replacing the old shower screen with a frameless glass shower screen to create a cleaner minimal, more spacious bathroom. Replace the old vanity with a stylish new bespoke one to suit your bathroom design, install a tall mirrored shaving cabinet for more storage and it adds the illusion of a bigger room reflecting more light. Replace the tapware and the shower fixtures with a contemporary designer brand, and if appropriate install a new bathtub. If you need more light and ventilation add a skylight, and refresh the walls and ceiling with a new coat of paint and Voilà!

  • The Size and the structural integrity of your bathroom is another consideration, the larger the space the more materials are required.

  • The cost of materials.

The cost of materials has increased over the last few years as there has been a unprecedented disruption and shortages to the supply of building materials as well as finished products worldwide because of the coronavirus. This has led to higher quotes and longer lead times, so it is important to get a minimum of three quotes before proceeding with your renovation.

The other factor is the purchase of your PC items. Your choices and the finishes of your bathroom products contribute to the cost of your renovation. Obviously quality products from leading bathroom brands are what we recommend; they do cost more than the cheap copies that are available, but our products carry long warranties and withstand daily use and keep on looking fabulous for a very long time.

Typically, the costs to renovate a bathroom ranges from $5,000 to $15,000 for a remodel/refresh, for a standard complete bathroom renovation from $15,000 to $30,000; and for a premium complete bathroom renovation looking at upwards of $30,000+. The costs vary based on the factors discussed above.
